Ovi Store client Updated now becomes Nokia Store

Nokia had announced that it will be removing Ovi Brand from Store and Other Nokia services and bring under the Nokia Brand.Most of the Ovi Services has been shutdown and the Store is now called Nokia Store.This update has now reached s60v5 phones with updated Ovi Store client.

The update is an optional one and the client version now is 1.16 and the major change you will surely notice the color change,from Ovi green to Nokia blue.Also now a start up screen with new store logo is there.AAS reports that swipes to move from one category to another has been removed.The startup time feels considerably improved.
An option in settings allow you to select where to install the app(memory card or phone memory) though i don't know from when this option was there.

To update just open the store on your phone and you will be asked to update.

Paid Apps Back to Ovi Store Again and now working

Late last month i had reported that  the paid apps was back to Ovi Store in India which had only free apps for nearly an year expect for one carrier Reliance.But within a day of reporting the paid apps had vanished which Nokia said was a beta release.Today the Ovi Store seems to show the paid apps are working and many are saying that they have bought one for eg here is a post on twitter by Nitish Kumar

So buy apps quick as we don't know when Nokia will enter into an exclusive deal with another carrier(better be Aircel :))

Exclusive Ovi Store paid apps now available in India

After over six months the paid apps are back on Ovi Store.During this period the paid apps where only available for Reliance users.

So if you have been waiting for it you can now download the paid apps on Ovi Store through Master or Visa Card.
Update1:Please Note operator billing is still available only to Reliance users
Update2:themobileindian reported that the paid apps is still in beta and a commercial release will be soon.
Update3:Nokia has pulled the paid apps
Update4:The paid apps are again shown in Ovi Store and is working

New beta for Ovi Suite released direct app downloads and easier updates

A new beta for Ovi Suite has been released in beta labs which brings a well needed direct app downloads and smaller Nokia Ovi Suite updates.

 The changes include

• The direct download and installation of free Ovi Store apps, games, and more from the Nokia Ovi Suite home view to your connected phone. Just sign in first with Nokia account.
• A simplified Maps view. You can instantly see which maps you have on your phone.
• Support for quicker and smaller Nokia Ovi Suite updates (patch support). For example, Nokia Ovi Suite can be updated from the Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.40 release to Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.50 with an update package that is considerably smaller in size. Updating naturally takes place more swiftly. Major updates to Nokia Ovi Suite, like updating Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.40 to Nokia Ovi Suite 3.2.0.50 still require the download of the full update package. 
• Lots of error corrections. For example, over 30 crash errors have been fixed in this release.

Ovi Mail and chat now offically powered by Yahoo

Nokia had recently announced that they will be using Yahoo as a backend for Mail and chat and now the transisition has offically over.The changes include

Updated Ovi Store app now available

Nokia Ovi Store client has just received an update and you can update it by starting the app choosing to update.

The update is on the heels of an update to the ovi store which brings a couple of changes like improvements in algorithm and app updates read the full list of changes here.The update doesn't bring app updates but probably brings the changes in algorithm.

Ovi Store Update bring App Updates s60v5 version soon

Nokia has updated Ovi Store client(symbian^3) and the desktop ovi store site bringing a couple of interesting new features.The client has been updated with app update notification feature and bettering algorithm to feature releavant apps.The updated version will soon be available for s60v5 devices.
The desktop site also has got an update showing recommendations for apps to download.

The update brings better suggestions and also shows in some apps the link to the homepage of developer and support address.

The Ovi Services will be renamed to Nokia

The Ovi brand announced in 2007 to cover the software services provided by Nokia.The line up included Ovistore,Ovi Maps,Ovi Music and more.

According to the post on Nokia's offical concersations blog its only a name change and will affect all the exiting devices by future firmware updates and also the newer devices.The move is to make evrything under the Nokia brand which much better known.

Ovi suite 3 beta has got an update making syncing your contacts with devices as well as ovi.com a whole lot easier.The software now is more reliable.The main changes are

Ovi Store sites gets updated with better search and localisation

Finding the app you want in ovistore was some what difficult as the builtin search was less than perfect and i usually used google to help.But now they have released an update to the search which makes life easier.

The search now has spell correction which suggests the correct query a welcome addition.Also the site shows the cost of apllication in INR(indian ruppes) for indian users.There are also plans to implement local languages like arabic,hindi to ovi store app for smartphones.

Distimo a company specialising in app store analytics has released an analytics report covering all the major app stores.According to the report

• While all app store's are growing Ovi store is growing at a faster rate than Apple's app store
• The no of apps in ovistore has exeeded 25,000
• The growth in number of downloads for free apps are making developers to think in creative ways to monetize their app.
• The average cost of an app is decreasing in all appstore

So from this report we can see that Ovi store has come a long way from last year with more and more apps and we can hope that the growth continues in 2011.
