A new beta for Ovi Suite has been released in beta labs which brings a well needed direct app downloads and smaller Nokia Ovi Suite updates.

 The changes include
  • The direct download and installation of free Ovi Store apps, games, and more from the Nokia Ovi Suite home view to your connected phone. Just sign in first with Nokia account.
  • A simplified Maps view. You can instantly see which maps you have on your phone.

For example, Nokia Ovi Suite can be updated from the Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.40 release to Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.50 with an update package that is considerably smaller in size. Major updates to Nokia Ovi Suite, like updating Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.40 to Nokia Ovi Suite 3.2.0.50 still require the download of the full update package.
  • Lots of error corrections. For example, over 30 crash errors have been fixed in this release.

Nokia Drop push photos, links to your phone from your browser

Nokia Beta Labs  has just released Nokia Drop an app to push photos and links to your phone.Ever wanted to browse link to your phone but don't want to type the entire thing this app can save your day.Nokia Drop doesn't require a usb or bluetooth connection,it uses your phone's data connection. It uses the push notifications Nokia introduced recently for Nokia smartphones with Nokia Reader, once you send a link or photo it will notify you immediately and doesn't use much battery.

The app has two components a client for your phone and an extension for your pc's browser.I downloaded the app on my Nokia 5230 and installed the extension for firefox, chrome is available too.For s60v5 users the push notification package also need to be installed. The app is qt based so if you haven't installed qt it will prompt you to download it.Dont worry downloading and installation of qt is automatic and one time only. For the first time when you click on the extension icon you need to login using your nokia account. There is a website https://drop.nokia.com where you can view your recent activity.
To send a link just click on the extension icon and the link will be pushed to your phone via your data conneion. To send a photo just right click and select send.

Nokia Diexie (诺基亚叠写) write chinese faster on your phone

After yeterdays announcement of Nokia Shoot and Tag by Nokia Research Center, Beijing today a quite new app which makes it easier to type Chinese charcters on symbian smartphones. The app allows you to enter each letter in sucession and edit the whole sentence at the end thereby reducing the time. Here is a part of offical blog post explaning Nokia Diexie,
"Nokia Diexie allows users to simply write a full sentence one character over another in a stacking style with using your pointer finger as a pen.  (Diexie in Chinese  means "overlapping handwriting").  As you begin writing the next character over the previous character, the previous character begins to fade away, creating an overlapped visual, allowing you to concentrate on finishing the next character."

This method they clame increase the accuracy and speed of writing.Though it is optimised for Chinese it can be used for other languages too.The application is available for s60v5 and symbian^3 devices.
Here is a video demonstrating the app
