When i bought my Nokia 5230 back in april the ovistore was just filled with themes and wallpapers and apps and games where few in number.The scene has changed and writing this post at the end of year i believe that ovistore is on a strong path but i feel that nokia should release the strength of apps in ovistore and not the daily number of downloads.

Gravity 1.5 alpha released with potrait qwerty keyboard and UI improvements


The gravity client is the best twitter client available for symbian platform and now with this new version they have further made the app more visually beautiful and more functional.

How to use offline maps in Ovi Maps


With the release of Ovi Maps 3.06 nokia has added offline maps to s60v5 and symbian^3 devices.This allows you to use ovi maps without having to worry about data charges.




  1. Download Ovisuite from here and install it.
  2. Download ovimaps 3.06 beta from here
  3. Install it on your computer and select maps
  4. You will be asked ovisuite or ovi maps online
  5. For the first time use ovimaps online.
  6. Now exit the application and connect your phone to ovisuite
  7. Be sure you have an active internet connection
  8. select maps on ovisuite
  9. The list of maps will be shown and you can select which location you want to use
  10. also download the voice guidence
  11. after the both have been downloaded open ovimaps to goto settings->internet->connection
  12. select offline
  13. Now your phone will use data only when searching for new places(just searching) or syncing favourites,checking weather.
  14. Note some countries maps will be of very large files be sure to select memory card for installing the maps

    News:Symbian Foundation closes and Development only under Nokia


    Symbian developments comes under Nokia and no more opensource developed by all symbian but a nokia spearhead symbian how it will turnout only time will show.Though this was the most viable option because only Nokia was the major manufacturer remaining with such capability.

    News:Aupeo Releases 20 new free internet radio channel apps to ovistore


    Aupeo  has just released 20 internet radio apps to the ovi store.The company provides personalised radio stations meaning you can select what songs to play and also they have a good recommendation system.They have now launched 20 apps each catering to streaming radio channels like best of 80's etc and a 80 more is to follow.




    I tested on My Nokia 5230 downloading from ovi store a body beat channel app.The app is very good looking and simple you have a album art area with an option to buy from ovimusic.Buying from ovimusic is a nice touch as ovi music becomes complementary to it.There is also a volume control key and a key to download more apps.

    The app uses there an algorithm to recommend users the best songs.The app worked in my edge connection.It would have been wonderful if they had released an all io one app not an app for each channel.

    Apps:Waze for Nokia crowd sourced gps navigation


    Waze is a multiplatform(Nokia,Android,Iphone) that gives you free turn by turn navigation.The concept is great each person using the app can record a part of the map he or she travels for others to use.



    The above video explains the concept neatly.If you dont have the time here is the short version each person using the app helps update the app passively yes you just have to start the app when you drive and the waze servers do the hardwork for you updating the map and warning you if their is some obstruction ahead.

    The map is completely user generated and you can reprot accidents,traffic jam and login into foursquare.If you find a road is not there you have three options
    1. report the problem
    2. press record on the app and start driving
    3. login to www.waze.com to change the map
    Neat isn't it.But the only problem is it all depend on the area you live in.If you live in US or Canada it is all set but like me if you are in india the map is far from complete.This will change with more persons using the application.

    Which to buy Nokia budget smartphones 5230,5235,5233,5250 compared


    Nokia corp has taken an approach to their smartphones to make the same software services available to its models in all budgets.This is done by keeping the basic hardware processor,ram same on all the phones and change their prices by addition or deduction of "addon hardware" like high res camera,gps,wifi etc.

    This approach can be seen in the newer symbian models N8,C6,C7,E7.All the s60v5 devices were also like these.Nokia 5800,N97,5230,5233,5235,5250 all had ARM 11 434mhz processor and 128 ram but N97 belonged higher end,5800 medium and 5230 low end.So i wanted to explain the available options when buying an entry level Nokia smartphone.

    Nokia 5230

    Nokia 5230 is missing two prominent things one no ovi music unlimited and no wifi.There is no front facing camera and hence no video calling,a 2MP camera with no flash.All other features of 5800 are there.A good option to buy if you are looking for a cheap nokia smartphone.

    Nokia 5233(5228)
    Launched at the same time as Nokia 5230 but as a lower cost option.The lower cost came at the expense of no 3g and no GPS.All other features are there but no wifi,no 3g is a very big loss and hard to recommend buy this if you are looking for a cheap smartphone with 3.2" screen.

    Nokia 5235

    Keeping all the features of Nokia 5230 it comes with two new additions an ovi music unlimted and a chrome metallic finish.Ovi music unlimited means you have acess to over 2 million DRM free international and regional songs free to download.Best option to buy if you want a Nokia smartphone under $200.

    Nokia 5250

    Released mid 2010 is the cheapest option.The phone has a new design but like Nokia 5233 there is no 3g or GPS.To make it more cheaper the screen is only 2.8" and phone memory is only 50mb.The phone is only recommended if you want to get the cheapest Nokia smartphone in the market.

    Ovi suite 3 beta has got an update to v3.0.0.271.The update brings a number of stability and performance improvements.Here is a list of changes



    • Various crash corrections, for example “crash when editing playlists”, crash when transferring music to device and many more issues
    • If you birthday information to a contact and don’t specify year of birthday, current year will be used.
    • Fixes to situations, where after update of Nokia Ovi Suite, device was not correctly found via USB cable.
